EmployesAl Factory FurloughedProduction of military equipment has started at the Radio Corporation of America's plant here with several new defense projects expected to begin in the near future, R. V. Miraldi, plant manager, announced today. ‘‘Transition of the plant’s opera* tion to Defense Electronic Products has necessitated a furlough of approximately 500 persons.” Mr. Miraldi said. “However, it is anticipated that a number of these employes will be recalled within the next two months to wmrk on defense projects. Others will be recalled as operating requirements develop.“Within the coming year, we anticipate a gradual build-up in plant employment to a point where it will considerably exceed that of the past several months. We will do all in our power to speed the transition as rapidly as possible and to minimize dislocation.”A major reason for the furlough, Mr. Miraldi said, was the necessity of installing new- equipment in the plant and training operators to produce military products. The latter, he explained, takes time and must te accomplished in small groups.“We have extensive plans for t the new military production operation in Cambridge,” Miraldi il explained. “The objective is to it make this a key plant in RCA's Defense Electronic Products organization. We are already producing printed circuit boards for military equipment, and we are engaged in other programs for the Armed Forces.
