An audience of 150 people gathered at the Whitemouth Hall.Opened by the Beause-jour Air Cadets and members of the RCMP, the colours were raised. Cadet leader Lieut Myles Dry nan led an excellent program dedicated to honouring fallen soldiers of the Whitemouth District.Jocelyn Bruce, a former air cadet and resident of Seven Sisters, once again returned to play the Last Post as she has done for a number of years. Representatives of the federal, provincial and municipal governments as well as local business and individuals laid wreaths in memory of the men and women who gave their all for Canada.Everyone present was delighted to once again see Nick Smerchynski, former Whitemouth citizen and Army Veteran, attend with members of his family to lay a wreath in memory of his fallen comrades, which he has done for nearly 50 years.Tears still come to his eyes as he speaks of his war experiences and memories of his comrades. At 93 years of age he is still ever faithful to their memory. A living example of “We will remember them”. God Bless You, Nick.
