YVnr deparlment 11 ot ificat ion \va5* received by members of the family today that Lieutenant Thomas W.Jr., of the army air forces, had been killed in action, according: to a news dispatch from Washington, D. C., where ThomasSr., reported the information had been given him from official sources. Lieutenant McManus, serving with the Ninth Air Force based in England, was listed as missing since August 6 when he took part in an air raid over Lou-viers, 60 miles northwest of Paris.The lieutenant was the only son 1 of the local prominent family. He is survived by his widow, the former Onia Louise Dear, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dear, 157 A street, who has been making her home in Bakersfield since her husband went overseas last August.The local youth was graduated from Bakersfield High School and Junior College and was in his senior year at the University of California at Los Angeles when he enlisted in the air corps. He received his wings at Yuma, Ariz., in July, 1943, and later received transitory training at i Mather Field at Sacramento flying B-25s. He instructed in B-25 training and was then sent to Charlotte, N. C., for training with A-20 Havoc planes. He was stationed in Savannah, Ga., before leaving for overseas. The young lieutenant had made a distinguished record for himself inLIEUT.
