Soldier’s Medal for heroism, according: to . a war department general order received by a 12th AAF B-25 Mitchell bombardment group with which Sgt, Haas Is serving as .a radio operator and gunner.Discovering that two 100-pound bombs had not been released upon the completion of a bomb run, Haas removed his parachute and climbed into, the open bomb bay, the citation accompanying the award states.. Then with a comrade holding., him, suspended by his parachute harness, Haas succeeded in releasing the shackles, jettisoning the bombs harmlessly from the airplane.
