LETTER PROM “PRIVATE”Armv of tiik Potomac, I Union Mills, Va Nov. 1, 1801. jEd*. Sun: No change in affairs hereorthy of note since my last, everything pmarkably quiet. Rumors have been ife for some days that several regiments f 12 month’s troops would be soon or- ; ered south and west from here. This I o not believe, though it may be so.We are all waiting with a great deal ofnxiefy to hear at what point the great liocoln Naval armada, which sailed from ; lampton Roads, lately, will make a de-lonstration.Some of our Generals aucioipato an at-ack here soon, while others are of a ontrary opinion. One thing is certain, dcClellan will have to bring with him □any thousands to whip us here.A battle flag has been adopted to be j ised by this army in case of an engage-nent with the enemy. This is to guard tgainst a repetition of the base deception racticed upon us at the battle of Ma-lassas, by the enemy who upon that day, rou will remember, displayed Confederate lags in their ranks, thereby deceiving mr troops. The one adopted was to day lent to all the regiments, for the purpose f exhibition to the troops. Eaclosed rou will find a description of it.An old man by the name of Tillett, a ritizen of Fairfax county, living about 2 niles below this, was murdered by a soldier belonging to the 12th MississippiRegiment, on day before yesterday, whileriding along the road with his wife. The murder is said to have been a very unprovoked one. I refrain from giving the oame of the prisoner, who has been sent to headquarters for Court martial.Lieutenant Colonel B. If. Baker, has resigned. Cause ill health, aud inability to endure the duties and hardships of the mmpaigu.Col. Seibles has begun building winter quarters for his men. The houses are to be built of log? and covered with boards, the cracks between the logs filled with mud. Each company will have one house 150 feet long, 10 feet wide, and divided into 8 or 10 apartments. The freinds of those soldiers under the command ofthis gentleman may rest assured that he will do all in hia power for the comfort of his men during the coming winter.PRIVATE.
