Military Science Sgt. Takes Bronze StarAn instructor in military science at West Texas State University, Sgt. Dailey Brown, was presented Thursday with the Bronze Star Medal during ceremonies on the campus.Presenting the award was Lt.Col. Billy R. Smith, professor of military science.Sgt. Brown, an instructor since August of 1967, was cited for distinguishing himself from August 1966 to June 1967 while serving as operations sergeant for the 196th Light Inf antry Brigade in Vietnam.He is now the senior noncommissioned officer in the military science department at WT.The citation which accompanied the medal said the award is for meritorious Service in conne ction with military operations against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam.It further states that Sgt. Brown was directly responsible for the smooth transition to more permanent facilities and for the development of complete standard operational procedures to standardize control techniques and reports ,He trained all enlisted personnel working in the operations center in their duties and re-sponsiblities, , ,During Operations ' Attleboro,* ‘Cedar Falls,’ 'Gadsden,* and ‘junction City,’ Sergeant Brown supervised the movement, establishment and operation of the forward command post. . ,‘‘The speed and efficiencywith which the command post could be moved provided the necessary facilities to the commanding general to control battles at all times.During his J1 months in Vietnam, Sgt. Brwn was responsible for setting up a base operations office near the Cambodian border.
