20 Years AgoA veteran of the second Russian shuttle and missions to Berlin, Schwednfurt, M u n i ch, RuhJand and other targets in Germany, First Lt. Leslie E. Kassebaum, a pilot, won the Distinguished Flying Cross. The decoration was bestowed on the former Beatrice high school student for “extraordinary achievement” during the air battles against the enemy in Europe. Flying the B - 17 Fortress “Happy . Go -Lucky”, Lt. Kassebaum bombed war factories in many parts of the Reich.
