Fisher, son of Mrs. Annie Fisher, who was reported missing in action since October 2, 1943 in the South west Pacific area, has now been declared officially as ‘'killed in action” by the war department.Lt. Fisher was one of the best known and best liked Bellville boys and was serving in the aircorps as a bombardier. Despite the government report, his death is not known for a certainty and an element of hope continues to linger in the minds of his relatives and friends.In writing to Mrs. Fisher. Lt. Gen. Barney M. Giles of the army air forces, said, in part:“. . . Displaying initiative and skill, he became an excellent officer and leader who performed the duties of his grade in an ex emplarv manner and earned the respect of associates for his i many commendable traits of character. He will be remembered by fellow airmen for his unwavering devotion to our j cause.i “In behalf of General H. H. Arnold, commanding general, army air forces, I extend mvv * »heartfelt sympathy to you andother members of the family. I hope you will derive sustaining comfort from the knowledge that your courageous son servedhis country faithfully and well.”
