They are certainly very substantial and will stand the wear of years to come, as a great many of them have already done.The people as-a rule are very friendly and pleasant with us. In one or two places they were more or less of German decent. That was in some of the country which Germany and France fought over in 1870, and the people were rather unfriendly and indifferent with us, but the .real French towns do everything they can for us. The children .all fail in love right away with our American soldiers,
