Ferguson, 1220 Elm Ave., has been promoted from captain to major. He is chief of the Aircraft Distribution Office. Deputy for Distribution of the Supply Division at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio.In World' War II, Ferguson served ir. the Pacific Theater and in the Caribbean Air Command. He is credited with 27 combat missions. He served as supply officer with the USAF mission to Peru. In civilian life he was employed by the Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach as production planner. He and his wife, the former Juanita Perkins, reside in Dayton.Jerry L. Groom, Long Beach native son who will observe his 21st birthday Christmas Day, has been made a corporal, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. E.Groom, 4105 E.Fourth St., have been notified by his station at Sendai,Japan.Groom entered the Army Oct. 27, 1950.He is with 223rd Headquarters Company, 40th Infantry Division. B a r c r o ft, who was wounded in action, has been discharged from active duty with the Marine Air Wing, and is home.The citation accompanying the award stated that “Barcroft flew in an unarmed highly vulnerable Marine transport aircraft in the face of intense enemy anti-aircraft fire and the possibility of attack from enemy night fighter aircraft. Completely disregarding the grave danger to himself, Cpl. Barcroft contributed materially to the success of the mission byCpl.' Robert Shoff, 17, son oi Mr. and Mrs. Russell E. Shoff, 2874 San Francisco Ave., is helping guard the United Nations delegates to the military armistice conference at advance, headquarters. He is a rifleman in the Seventh Division's 17th Infantry Regiment combat team which was selected for the honor guard assignment following its successful assault on ''Bloody Ridge.”Shoff, a graduate of Polytechnic High School, entered the Army 10 months ago. He has been in Korea seven months.Jack E.
