Creston Soldier Wounded by Mortar Shell In KoreaSgt. 1st class Emmett J. Eagan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Eagan, 1005 north Elm street, Creston, was wounded in action on the central front in Korea on October 14, according to information released today by the department of defense. He is in a hospital in southern Japan and probably will be returned to the United States in December.The defense department also said that Pfc James L. Davis of route 1, Murray, was wounded in action in Korea.In letters to his parents, Sgt. Eagan said he was wounded when an 82 mm. mortar shell landed beside him and blew him off a cliff during the central front drive. His left leg was broken and he suffered several shrapnel wounds from fragments of the mortar shell.He is recovering from his wounds.Sgt. Eagan was a member of company F, 24th infantry regiment of the 24th infantry division and had been in action in Korea almost continuously since March 22. He entered the army in September, 1950, and was the second man to be drafted from Union county in the renewal of selective service.
