sThose six months, however, have been weary and anxious ones for the friends of “our boys. With lovin* eyes and earnest prayers we have fob lowed them from day to day. We were with them at Camp Busbnell and at Camp Thomas. Solicitously we watched their progress as they journeyed across the sea to distant Porto Rico, and when after weeks of hard service in that tropic clime they were sent back t,n American soil, we rejoiced in anticipation or their early home coming. And now today we welcome “our boys back to the old homes again We welcome them with mingled feell logs of love and joy and admiration, and yet through it all there is a tinge of sadness. 6There are some of “our boys who did not come marching home today with their comrades. Some of t.bemgrew weary in fighting life’s bard battle, and they surrendered to a mightier foe than Spain. They gave up their young lives a willing sacrifice in a grand and ^oble cause, and they died as they had lived, brave and courageous soldiers to the end. And, while we welcome the living with glad acclaim,“we drop a silent i tear of remembrance for those who are dead? May the grass ever grow green over their honored graves! There are others, too, who in Eastern hospitals are fighting bravely against dread disease. Our hearts go out to them today in loving sympathy, with the hope that they all will come out victorious in the light. But the remembrance of those boys dead and gone from among us, and of those who are battling with dis ease, serves to quicken our admiration and esteem for those who have come back in the fulness of their strength. It brings U\ us a keener and a fuller appreciation of the trials and difficulties they- have overcome and fills our hearts with gratitude and joy that so many have been spared. And so, we ail join in a gladsome welcome home to the soldier boys of Company II. Long may they live to enjoy the respect and esteem of a grateful city, and may their life’s pathway ever bo strewn with the choicest of flowers.Setamwe tin 11 nsigtraidiwa: J ‘F burpoliScb and tiora Mattheten;iati'Theof C and Itcan the tior the and ing T thenignotmorpersthesof awouthewcr«16 St.It was a royal greeting that Portsmouth gave.to her returning soldiers today. It was a sp ntaneons outburst ofmgit, dieOremjrcoirwhlt;■st rethewelwhcuratappelseOr hats Co.’
