MOTHER GIVEN SWEET WORDSCheering words from his company comrades were received recently 1 by Mrs. L. A. Sparks, Hillsboro, telling of the devotion of her son, Pfc. John M. Sparks, who was killed in action in France on June 12.They wrote the following letter;Sept. 24, 1944 IFranceDegr Mrs. Sparks:„ ICnowing of your recent bereavement we wish to extend to you our most profound sympathy.Before we tell you how your beloved son met death, we would like to say a few words for our comrade. The comparative short time we have known your son, we found him to be loyal patient, generous, sympathetic, and to have a true love for his mother whom he mentioned constantly.-Your son died lighting for democracy, a way of life that looks easy, but is difficult, and he knew that fighting for liberty was not the end, but only the beginning.He met his death June 12 about 5:00 o’clock in the evening near Aberville, France. It was our first major battle over here. He was hit by shrapnel from a German artillery gun. He was killed instantly, suffering none. He was buried in the American cemetery at Ste. Mere L’Eglise.You may rest assured that your son has been missed by his fellow soldiers, and that the Great Physician will take care of him.His fellow Comrades Cq. “G” 357 Infantry.
