Air Force has helpmiSixty-two people volunteered for the Air Force during fiscal year 1983 from Otero, Iincoln, Chaves, Iea and Eddy counties, according to SSgt. Frank Cereceres, Air Force recruiter here.Nationwide, Air Force recruiters met both enlisted and officer recruiting goals for the first time since the beginning of the All Volunteer Force in 1973, SSgt. Cereceres said.Except for fiscal 1979, recruiters have met all the enlisted recruiting goals. However, they have traditionally experienced difficulty attracting sufficient physicians and engineer specialists in the officer recruiting programs, he said.Almost 68,000 people joined the Air Force in all recruiting programs nationwide during fiscal 1983. About 60,500 enlisted without prior military service, of which 98 percent were high school graduates. Also enlisting were more than 3,000 people with prior military service. College graduates entering Officer Training School at Lackland AFB, Tex., numbered 3,161 and 812 health care professionals received direct commissions in the Air Force Medical Service. Another 369 received healthprofessions scholarships.During the next 12 months. Air Force recruiters will seek about 65,000 people in all programs to volunteer for service to country in today's high technology Air Force. About 60,000 young people without prior military service will be needed: 1,000 with prior military service; 3,300 college graduates for officer training, including 715 engineering graduates; and more than 700 health professionals. Davis of Holloman AFB, has enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, according to SSgt. Frank Cereceres, Air Force representative in Alamogordo.Upon successfully completing six weeks of basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, Tex., Airman Edwards will receive technical training in the aerospace ground equipment mechanic career area. Airman Edwards is a 1983 graduate of Alamogordo High School. He will be earning credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and other Air Force technical training schools.In addition, SSgt. Cereceres said that two Alamogordans have entered the Air Force’s delayed enlistment program. They are Avis Donell Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Mitchell of 900 Arapaho, and Wiley Edward Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward L. Wilson of 1311 Desert Eve.Both young men selected the security specialist career area for training following completion of the Air Force’s six-week basic training course.According to SSgt. Cereceres, the delayed program is for qualified applicants who have reserved an Air Force job or received an Air Force assignment. The time spent in the DEP will increase a member’s seniority for pay purposes once on active duty.Wilson is a 1983 graduate of Alamogordo High School. Mitchell is a graduate of Vanden High School, Travis AFB, Calif.Both young men will report for duty Dec. 27.
