Auxiliary to Sons of Veterans.By Mrs. Ola CraneComrades of the Grand Army, Ladies of the Relief Corps, Brothers of the Sons of Veterans, Sisters of the Auxiliary, and Friends:Today we have met, not to dedicate the court of justice, but a different and to us a far more holier purpose: To establish within these walls a place that may become a “Mecca” to the wives, sons an.d daughters of the soldiers, sailors and marines who went out to preserve this an unbroken nation. The organization which I represent today is composed of the mothers, sisters, wives and daughters of the honorably discharged.Union soldiers, sailorsand marines. Its purpose is to promote patriotismby instructing the. children of our land in the sacred observance of the national holiday, particularly Memorial Dav; toteach them to salute and honor the flag for which you fought; love of country, respect and loyalty to the memory of those who gave us our nation and preserved our flag; love of justice, of country and of home, and the will to sacrifice .even life itself when the object of our affections are threatened or assailed is a fire which God has placed in every heart. Sometimes it slumbers, but a breath arouses it—then it'flames and burns with unquenchable brightness until the Mighty Giver recalls its own.Women's hearts beat response to the same inspiration that prompts men to noble deeds and. though our field of endeavor may be more limited than that of men, we feel that to us is confided the interest of the men who won in a baptism of fire and blood our grand inheritance. We are ready to assist either with material aid or with cheerful words and ready sympathy those over whom the war clouds have rolled.Freedom from the shame of slavery and exemption from the strife and economic loss that must have ensued had two independent nations attempted to occupy the geographical territory destined for one people. Here we have met; here v£e now part and each his share must do to keep on high cut noble cause and to the flag be. true. One flag, one land, one heart, one hand, oie nation evermore. In loyalty .we’ll faithful be until this life is c’o'v:
