Seven Local YouthsJoin Marine CorpsSeven local youths were enlisted Tuesday in the United States Marine Corps and were assigned to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif, for 12 weeks of basic training. Hie seven will be appointed to the same recruit platoon.Following their initial phase they will be transferred to Camp Pendleton, Calif, where they will undergo four weeks of individual combat training. Upon completion of this tour they will be granted their first military leave in March.Enlisting were:James Claude Tarner, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Tarner, 308 18th Ave.Terry “R” Walker, 19. son of Mr. and Mrs. Adelbert H. Walker, 810 E. 5th St.Richard Dominic Michael O’Malley, Jr., 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard D. M. O’Malley, Sr., 1610 E. 6th St.Jerry Eugene Bartlett, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bennie G. Bartlett, 1807 21st Ave.Craig Alvin Roney, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig C. Roney, 1205 i 2nd Ave.Ronnie Lee Vaughn 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon L. Vaughn,i 510 W. 6th St.Jerry Lee Tuft, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. George J. Tuft, 910 4th Ave.The seven were recruited by S/Sgt. LeRoy Caughey of the Clinton, Iowa recruiting station.
