(Jack) Hill, 25, pilot of an A-20 based in New Guinea, had been killed in action in that area July 9. Both boys .are native Texans, having lived in San Antonio when they were children.Earl received his pilot’s wingsfrom Ellington Field, Houston, in February, 1943; while Vernon received his navigator's wings from the same air field in January, 1944. Earl had been overseas 21 months; Vernon, five months, having gone overseas in June.
