Airlines Get HugeTwo Oakland-based charter airlines, World Airways and Trans International Airlines, have been awarded huge contracts with the Military Airlift Command lor the fiscal yearbeginning July 1.World Airways received contracts calling for payment of $21 million for jet flights between Vietnam, Australia and Japan for servicemen on “rest and recuperation” leave from the war zone, and for transpacific charter f 1 i g h tsusing four-engine Boeing TOT jets. World is to get $6 million more in flights between Far East military bases using its Boeing 127 medium-range jetliners.Trans International was awarded a $13 million MAC contract' which, for the first time, includes- transatlantic and Caribbean flights as well as transpacific charters. TTA will cany servicemen, and military cargo between the West Coast and the Philippines — and other points in the Far East — and from the East Coast to Germany, and from die Southeastern U.S. to Panama and Guantanamo,.Cuba, using the 250-passengerSuper DOS jetliner, largest commercial plane in service, and a new Boeing 727.The contracts for both airlines are for guaranteed minimum amounts, and include “expansion provisions” that can exceed the announced contract amounts. World, for example,, will obtain total revenues of approximately $52 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, a year in which its guaranteed minimum contract amount was $26.6 million. ~E. J. Dajy, president of World, said that through the competitive cost policies now in. use by Military Airlift Command, lower cost operators are afforded a greater shareof the MAC airlift requirements.
