Murrain of Purdin, enlisted inthe Navy Dee. 5th, 19J7, Alex4as in training lor three mouths it (ireat Lakes, Chicago, then went to Kllis Island, New York, from which place he sailtkl, after only a few days, for France, gong upon the big: German interned ship, Fatherland—now the Le-viathan—said to be the biggest ship afloatLast Saturday while Mr. Howard Murrain was in Linrteus he permitted us to see the following telegram whieh he had recei\ed from his son:“New* York, May 12th.Howard Murrain,Pudio, Mo.:Arrived tonight in New York from Kuropean Port. Had a nice trip Did not get to write before I left. Am real well. Will not be here long. Have not heard from you for . a month. Will write soon. Not much scared of the kaiser.Love to all, RI|£ ' Alex.”it will also be good news to themanv friends of Alex Murrain• *and Ward Hale, to know that they, having left Purdin together, were in training together and are still together upon the same ship.
