honor of the local Knights of Pythias Lodge at a big banquet to be held at the KP hall.“Three Iowa Giants1919-Because they were so large that special uniforms had to he made for them, a trio of Cass County men sent to Fort Warden were dubbed the Three Iowa Giants.*’The men as christened were Hans J. Petersen and Edward T. Goettsch and Gerald Birge of Anita.When the time came to draw uniforms it was found there was nothing in camp large enough to fit anyone of these three. Specially made uniforms had to be proved.The Seattle Times devoted considerablespace to a story about the *‘Three IowaGiants'*. The Cass County men went to Fort Warden in December, 1917, and all have since been discharged.1919—Chas. C. Wagner of Anita, was honored by an invitation to the Kuehnle-Finkbinc banquet given to representative undcr-graduate students at the University of Iowa Monday evening. Mr. Wagner represented the Varsity wrestling team.1919-More than 50 business men of the city met at the Victoria Hotel Friday evening, and after a banquet, an organization was perfected for the welfare of Anita. The new organization will be known as the Anita Club.1919-Oscar Bartley, son of Charles H. and Hattie Bartley, was born near Walnut, and was a resident of Anita since 1912, He heard the call of his country and entered her service on Dec. 31, 1917, and went into training as a United States Marine at Paris Island. South Carolina. He started to France on Apr. 2tr 1918, and entered the active service about June 20. He was in action at Bellou Woods and was wounded July [9. at the battle near Soissons. His body lies among the honored dead of our country in one of the communes, having bravely made the supreme sacrifice for his country and the cause of democracy.Memorial services were held Sunday.
