I'rom Eastern Kentucky—Hum-piii’cy Marshall Arrested and Kent to Uii-iiinoiid.From a letter received in Covington yesterday fiorn Maj. Jas. L. Foley, of the 10th Kentucky Cavalry, dated in Camp near Ow*. ingsville, Rath County, Kentucky, May 21, we make the following extracts:\Y e are still in stutu quo. Nothing exciting ’ has transpired. The scouting party sent to jthemountainsla.se week, has returned with! I some thirteen piisoners—one captain, two! J lieutenants, and several officers ot inferior ! grade. The scouts had three or four skir-J rnishes, with no loss on our side. Carter and : Morgan Counties are now comparatively free! from any regularly organized forci of Rebels, yet the infernal horsethieves give that country some trouble. We are gradually thinning ; these fellows out, and hope in the course of! I time, to have quiet and good ordei restored.—| A Confederate soldier came within mv lines yesterday, and gave himself up. He belongs . to the 5th Kentucky (relel) Infantry, com* manded by Colonel II. Hawkins, who is at present encamped near Whitesburg, with his force of some 3(K) men and six pieces of artil-leiy. Humphrey Marshall was arrested be fore he left, and sent to Richmo d as a prisoner. The charges against him are treason and disloyalty to the ‘Confederate States.’ In fact it has been asserted by several individuals much more reliable and responsible than this fellow, that the General is a Union man. His troops, at heart, have no confidence in him. and think he is either a coward or traitor to the cause in which he has taken up arms. Things look a little threatening in the direction of our Southern border. Buckner is re ported to be in our front with 17,000 troops, ready to cross the Cumberland as soon as it is 1 fordable. Simon Bolivar will have a hard time with that number in this State, under the present administration. I have sent quite » number of prisoners to the rear since my ars rival at this place, Hardly a day passes but some two or three are brought in for care andattention from the Department Commander_Rehel sympathizers are gobbed up by scores — coming under General Order No. 38. Two or three captured last week, will share the ate of Corbin and McGraw, recruiting papers having been found on their persons.
