About 355 of the twin-rotor banana-shaped helicopters are in service. The Marine Corps considers the Sea Knight a reliable helicopter with a solid safety record, Maj. Ron Stokes, a Marine spokesman in Washington, said in an earlier interview.• Last year, there were four major crashes of Sea Knights, in which 17Marines were killed.
