Zatloukal ended Monday when she received a letter, the first in eleven weeks, j! from her son Jerry, which revealed that he was safe and well. TheU. S. navy revealed Monday that the Kanawha, a 14,500-ton tanker, upon which Jerry served, was sunk by Jap planes off Gudalcanal on April 17. Jerry stated in his letter that he lost all of his personal affects he lost all of his personal affects but gave no other detailB of the sinking.Jerry has since been promoted from Seaman 2|c to Yoeman l|c and is now doing office work in navy headquarters at Guadalcanal.His sister, Mrs. Wllmer Neal of Gilmore City apd Mr. and Mrs, D. A. Mitchell have also received letters from him.
