Celnar Children United For First TimeAt the age of 62, Earl Celnar is meeting his five brothers and sisters for the first time. American touriststo his home country, Romania, helped him locate them.Earl Celnar lives in the village of Milholt, in the AlbaIulie area of Romania. A river runs through the valley, and the mountains are nearby. An uncle cared for him in childhood, and as a youthhe worked as a blacksmith's apprentice. In later years, he worked for the railroad before retiring at the age of 55.Philip Celnar, a younger brother, lives in Sarasota. He tells the story this way:“Our parents were farmers. When they came to the United States in 1910 from Romania, they had just enough moneyfor their own passage They weren’t sure they would like to stay in this country, so they left their child in the care of an uncle. Earl was about two years old“Five more children were bom in the United States. Our parents had just managed to accumulate enough money to send for Earl. Then came World War I. There was no chance to bring him overhere.“Soon both parents sickened and died. I was eight yearsold at the time. The five of us were placed in St Vincent’s Orphanage in Columbus. Ohio. We were only little children, but we kept the vague idea that we might.have a brother in Romania.”The five children grew up and moved to various partsCelnar retired from the electronics business in Ohio and moved to Sarasota. He is in the real estate business here. His wife, Mildred, is employed in the district social security office.year or so ago American tourists started going t o Romania,” Philip Celnar said. e “Whenever my brother saw an American tourist, he would ask 11 the tourist knew any member of the Gelnar family in the United States. I was the one named after my father, so a tourist found my address and sent it to him ”Then came letters. The American Celnars shared the expense of bringing their older brother to the United States for a visit. Although he speaks only Romanian, Ear! Celnar obviously is having the time of his life.“I met him at the airport,’* Philip said. “He was surprised at the car I drove. The automatic transmission. The air-conditioner.
