OLD McCLELLAN HOUSE which stood at 220 West Broadway (where Roth Dairy Is now locat*ed), was once the home of Civil War general George B. McClellan. McClellan, who had graduated fromWest Point with high honors and fought in the Mexican War, designed the famous McClellan saddle in 1856 and a year later resigned his commission to join the Illinois Central. He was soon made chief engineer (during which period he lived here) and before 1860 became a vice president.
