Twelve Wakefield soldiers and airmen who had been officially lifted as prisoners of war have been liberated. Several of them have already returned to their homes here on extended furioughs, while others are known to be enroute to their homes.During the past week Cpl. Mike Bonello, Sgt. William Luoma, Pvts. Raymond Wilson and George Stein have arrived home. Sgt. Luoma was a prisoner of war with S-Sgt. Robert Bodoh, but was detained from arrival home with Sgt. Bodoh because of illness. He is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Luoma, and his wife, the former Miss Ann Ribich.Cpl. Mike Bonello is visiting his father, who resides at the Sunday Lake location. He had been a prisoner of war since Dec. 16.S-Sgt. Neil Brennan, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Brennan, and S-Sgt. William Keskey, son of Mrs. Hilda Keskey, have been released from an air force prison camp in Austria. Mrs. Keskey received word of her son's release Saturday and the Brennans received a direct word from their son that he was now with the American forces in France. Sgt. Keskey was declared missing in 'April. 1943 and a year later his mother lesined he was a prisoner of war. Sgt. Brennan was shot down in November, 1943, and his folks were advised of his status three months later. Both of these young men, gunners of the 8th Air Force, have been prisoners in thesame camp.S-Sgt. John F. Negri and S-Sgt. Walter Salo have been prisoners of war for several months. T-5 LJoyd Johnson was captured by the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge in Luxembourg in December. He was unheard from for several months, bu this parents were later advised that he was a prisoner of war. He was liberated several weeks ago, but has been hospitalized since that time. He will arrive home after his release from medical care.
