When he started, in in 1910, there were only about 15 men in his entire department*—today, mort than 70 men work on the assembly line—on the dayshift alone! So, Ed. Koester has grown with Buda.M rs. Koester’s doing her part to win the war by working for Buda and she is seen inspecting oil pump idler gears and driving gears. One-thousandth of an inch (.001 ) looksmighty small, but ourgears must be right withinthat measurement to passinspection and work properly on Buda engines.Private First Class Merrill Koester is nostranger to —he started work on the layout bench at Buda—and at the time of entering the army, was working as a gear cutter. It was April, 1944, when he joined the Army, and trained at Camp Cook and Camp Roberts, California, being assigned to the infantry.
