Plant Navy Likely to Han a Much Larger at Beverly and Edison Company Recruiting StationCertain members, at least, of the Balfour mission to this country have had time for thoughts other than war. There are on that mission certain labor representatives, and upon the urgent request of Pres Gompers of the American Federation of Labor, these English labor representatives, with Joseph Davies, private secretary of Lloyd | j George, and Judge Amos, the muni- i | tiens expert of the British Government will arive in Boston this evening on ' a flying trip from Albany to inspect the welfare work of certain of the large manufacturing establishments in and about Boston.Their interest for the trip centers in those large plants which have this welfare work established upon a sound basis, and they will visit the plant of the United Shoe Machinery Company at Beverly, the Edison Company's welfare establishment on Northampton st in Boston, and other similar establishments.Louis A. Coolidge, treasurer of the United Shoe Machinery Company, went to Albany last night to meet the British visitors and to discuss with them this important welfare work on the trip to Boston.Between 10 and 11 this evening five members of the, Balfour mission will arrive at the Copley-Plaza. Those five are Rt lion C. W. Bowerman, M. P., Privy Councilor, and a member of the British Trades Union Congress Parliamentary Committee; .Tames H. Thomas, M. P., general secretary of the National Commission on Railway Men of Great Britain and Ireland; Joseph Davies, secretary of Premier Lloyd George: A. W. Harrod, representing labor in the Department of Munitions, and Judge Maurice Sheldon Amos, a munitions expert.Tomorrow morning the visitors will go to Beverly to look into the welfare work of the big plant there, as well as the, food production work in the vegetable gardens tract given by the company to its employes and to others who desired land to use for this purpose. The party will return to Boston in time for luncheon at 1:30 at the City Club, where Gov McCall, Lieut Gov Coolidge, Speaker Channing Cox of the House of Representatives, Executive Manager Henry B.
