A Female Soldier.During the lime when the Montgomery Guards were recruiting their quota of men, a rather good looking young soldier presented himself under the name of Robert Wilson, and was enrolled on the list. Tha soldier went with the rest to Camp Jackson, and drilled there some eight or li days when they wero examined bv the Surgeon and accepted, after which they were ordered to Camp Dennison. On their arrival there, Wilson helped to carry the tamber and assisted in building the barracks, was on guard and done ail the duties of a soldier with alacrity. On last Saturday, Wilson went to CoL Marrow and wished to bo changed from the Company ho was in—stating that an American company would suit him better, as the majority of the Montgomery Guards were IrUmen. Whilst talking to Wilson, the Colonel conceived the idea that the person addressing him was a female, and put this question: “Are you not a womanf* The person replied No, and, blushing, termed to leave him, when he called her back, and uuhuttooing her red shirt, drsfctffered that bis suspicions were Well founded.— He immediately ordered her under arrest* and she was brought back to Columbas by Sergeant Stephenson, and she is now in the city prison, and jesterday was still dressed in her male attire. Her name is Susao Jonas. She is a girl of unblemished character. She has lived with Dr. Thompson and Mr. Thomas Aston, of this city, for a long lime, and was an industrious and hard working girl. She states that the Surgeon sounded bar breast and pronounced her all right. Perhaps he thought her full breast indicated robust health and a sound constitution. She says that a barber in tho city cut her hair, and a married lady furnished her witk the male attire; but she refuses to give their names. She is yet bound to be a soldier, aud says they will not be so successful lha next time in discovering her sex.It was all right in sending her back—but wo think it was very wrong to put her in lire city prison. The prison was bailt to contain those who aro charged with crime; but we conceive that no crime can b© attached to a nalrintir vnnnrr Iurl? f Ir’.VttrrH
