He received shrapnel wounds in the right shoulder while fighting at Balete Pass in northern Luzon, Philippine Islands.Sergeant Boutwell, with the 25th division, has seen service in 110 Guadalcanal, New Georgia, and j Qu since January of this year has been engaged in Philippine campaigns.
