JEFFERSON, IOWA, WEI34 MORE MEN CALLEDLEAVE ON TUESDAY, MAY 28THList of Men Who Will Go to Camp Dodge Under Latest DraftOrder.Thirty-four men, representing Greene county’s final contingent of the second draft army of 500,000 men called to the colors in March, will leave for Camp Dodge during the five-day period beginning May 25. The list as made up by the local draft board this week;t,appears herewith.There taaT some lack of understand-* iing as to the dxact powers nd authority of the County Draft Board in placing the men in the various classes. The local Board has powers to classify only as to dependents and as to physical qualifications. On otherpoints, such as occupations and other claims, the District Board at Des Moines does the determining. The local Board has often placed men in Class 1A, and when the reports got to Des Moines they were put in 2B, or somewhere else. No man is finally classified until the whole record has been reviewed by the District Board in Des Moines and sent back here. Thus any one dissatisfied with the classification should place the responsibility where it belongs.Another matter which causes some misunderstanding is the getting of credits for enlistments. The daily papers report that some counties do not have to furnish any men for this draft contingent, and some people wonder why Greene county must furnish thirty-four men at this time after so many have enlisted.'This is all explained in a bulletin sent out by Adjutant General Logan, substantially as follows: When thecall was made last winter for 500,000 more men, comprising the second draft call since the beginning of the war, it was determined that Greene county’s quota for this half million was 158 men. These were to be called at various periods up to the first of June. Thirty-four men were sent to Camp Dodge three weeks ago; 10 more went to the Sweeney Auto School in Kansas City late in March; 14 more went to Jefferson Barracks last week.
