Wasco to Dedicate Service Plaque at Ceremony SundayWASCO, May 21.—Enlisted anddrafted Wasco men now in thp armed forces will be honored on Sunday, May 24, with the dedication of a community plaque on which their names have been painted.Appropriate patriotic ceremonies are planned for 2:30 o’clock on the Wasco Elementary School campus where the plaque Is to be located, according to Mrs. J. W. McNeil, general chairman for the community project.The wooden plaque, 10 by 16 feet in size, was designed by Clifton Clemens of the Wasco High School wood-shop faculty.High school boys of the woodshop classes taking an active interest in the project were Bud Carriker, Elmer Witzke, Elwood Knox, Eddie Camargo, and Eugene Norton. Names of men in the service may be added as they nre called.Sunday's program will open wth a military march played by the high school band, directed by Alfred Sessions; Jesse Teeters, patrol leader of Boy Scout Troop 31 will lead the flag salute and Lawrence Turner, of the high school faculty, will direct assembly singing of “America” and “God Bless America.”Dr. John Barron Toomay, pastor of the First Congregational Church will deliver tHe invocation and two student speakers of the high school public speaking class of H. Clifford Harrington will speak briefly.A message is to he delivered by a member of Wasco Post, No. 215, the American Legion. Pupils from St. John’s Catholic School will sing a prayer choral during the unveiling of the plaque by two Boy Scouts. The Reverend Byron P. Hovey of the First Methodist Church will render the benediction and the program will conclude with the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner.”Principal Lester R. Smith of the high school will be the announcer. Ag students, under P. D. Spilsbury. have made and designed stepping stones to be laid to the plaque by A. T. Elmes of the elementary school ground force. Program chairman is to be Mrs. Ben Homfeld, presidentelect of the Wasco Woman’s Club.Organizations and their committee representatives donating $4 toward the expenses of the project Included the Wasco Exchange. Friday night in the Community Methodist Church, Miss Marjorie Kelley, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ira A. Kelley of the Richgrove district, became the bride of S. Gerald Ladd, only son of City Clerk Scott G. Ladd and Mrs. Ladd,More than 150 relatives and friends witnessed the ceremony which was performed by the Reverend William A. Welch, Sr., an old friend of the bride’s family. The bride was given away by her father and wore a white marquisette and lace gown, with finger-tip veil caught by a cornet of orange bios-gnms. She carried a shower bouquet of gardenias, and white and pink roses and fern. *Her attendants were Miss Dorothea McAbee who wore blue and carried pink carnations, and Mrs. Alice Caseboit Wimberley of McFarland who also wore a frock of blu£ and carried gladioli. Standing with the groom were Harold Dyar and Harold Kelley.Ushers were Nelson Haag and Albert Villard. Miss Marylouise Nielsen sang before the ceremony “Because” add “I Love You Truly,” with Miss Janet Struthers at the organ. She also played the wedding marches for the entrance and exit of the bridal party. A profusion of spring flowers decorated the church.A reception was held after the ceremony at the home of the bride’sparents lor relatives and close JYienjla-of the two families, when a four4ier bride's cake was cut by the bride. Assisting Mrs. Kelley in serving were Mrs. Ladd. Mesdames Michael Shiel, Florence Sehlitz, George Maywood, Keith and Kenneth Kelley.The bride is a graduate of the Delano Joint Union High School rfind the Bakersfield Junior College and prior to her marriage was secretary to J. W. McDaniel, Bakersfield Junior College instructor. The groom is a gradute of the local high school, Bakersfield Junior College and the University of California, Berkeley, where he received his B. S. degree from the College of Engineering. After a brief honeymoon they will be at home to their friends at 2451 Le Conte, Berkeley.Out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Randolph and family,Mr. and Mrs. O. W.
