Caldwell, of 142 North Kansas street, departed last night for New Orleans, where he will take a boat for Liverpool, England, and will there enter the English navy.He received a communication from an English agent some weeks ago offering him a position on board one ef the big English, warship?.Ml Caldwell decided this week to get into the game.Next week he will take passage on a boat loaded with English supplies, mostly cavalry horses. When he arrives in Liverpool, he will be assigned to a warship, which will be in the lighting zone.He will be a chief gunner on board the ship on account of the experience he received while in the United States navy for four years, and was a member of the gun crew on board the warship Helena, one of the large U.S. fighting boats.He was released from the navy four years ago and since that time has been making his home in Elt;i-wardsville. While in the U. ?. navy, Mr. Cold well made a trip around the world, and became acquainted with many of the sea ports.He will receive a salary of $3 a day from the English for operating one of the big guns. The hours for working are very short, but one is constantly in danger. He will be sent immediately to the war zone.Coldwell has many friends in Ed-wardsvills who wish him a safe and speedy return.
