SEWS, TL'ESDAY AFTERNOON', MA’Chief Executive And Party 60 By Train To Newport News, Spending Night On BoatRichmond, May 3 9—(Special.)—At 6:10 o’clock tomorrow morning the Commodore Maury, flagship of Virginia's oyster fleet. will leave her moorings st Newport News and pqlnt her bose towards the Virginia Capes, hearing Governor Davis. with Mrs. Davis and the executive party, who will be the first to welcome hack to Virginia the troops of the Old Dominion who are returning home.When the flagship Maury sights the troop ship Matsonls. she will fire a salute from every gun on hoard. lowing the Maury ja-m a’fleet of pleasure craft aTl gaily beflagged. This tiny armada Is expected to await the incoming Matsonla Just beyond the ripraps, which lies out In the Chesapeake Bay from Fortress Monroe. The little boats will probably not attempt to pass the capes, which are a considerable distance off. and where the water may be rough.Governor Davis, with Mrs. Davis and their party, was to have taken the Commodbre Maury at Richmond early today and proceed down the Jamss River to Newport News It was found Impossible, however, to get the craft to Richmond on time, for which reason the gubernatorial party left Richmond over the Cheeapeake and Ohio Railroad this afternoon at four o’clock, meeting the Maury at Newport News this evening and sleeping on board the little ship tonight.The Governor took with him, besides Mrs. Davis. Colonel David H Leake, his chief of staff. Colonel Leroy Hodges, his personal aide; Colonel K. Nash Bllisoly, State commissioner of fisheries. who will have charge of the Maury, and Colonel Horace L. Smith, also on the commlslson of fisheries. Colonel Jo Lane Stem, adjutant general, who was to have gone, was detained In Richmond by professional business.The Governor, after welcoming the 116th Infantry, comprising the Richmond Grays and other troops, will return to Newport News, where he willreview the soldiers 011 parade jfe willLtor back 10 Richmond, wherehe will he Joined by bis entire staff and set aw principal review** officer on the occasion of the Mg parade and demonstration here next week.
