Battle Vet, Twice Official ly Dead, Finds Return to Life ‘Troublesome’TAMPA, Fla., May 18 (API—Carl D. Zarick is finding it troublesome and expensive to come back from the dead.Zardick, now a hotel headwaitcr, was reported killed in action in Luxembourg and his death was twice verified by the War Department. And now, says the former soldier: “Insurance companies want their money back, the Government wants my salary gratuity returned. I’m trying to replace my clothes. I’m finding my return from the casualty list complicated and expensive.”His mother, Mrs. Jannett Zarickof Arcadia, Pa., could not believe the War department telegram that her son was dead, but a letter confirmed it. Then later, when a report was circulated that he was alive, another letter came expressing deep regret” that he was dead.But Zarick was a prisoner of war. Tired, ill and heartsick, he was liberated by American soldiers.Tuesday, he will review a company of troops and get the Bronze I Star for heroic achievement” in the same action in which he was rep-lorted slain.
