FIRST BANK HEREDunlop BrothersPioneeredTo the Editor: I should like to make a correction in regard toyour paragraphs concerning the sale of the Caldwell home on North Kenilworth avenue.Although hardly a pioneer inOak Park, (to which he came, as a small child, in 1863,) my father, Simpson Dunlop, was a real pioneer in banking here, since with hi' brother, Joseph Kettlestrings Dunlop, he founded and owned the Dunlop Brothers bank, the first and for a number of years the only bank in Oak Park. After my father’s death in 1899; his executors, my mother and uncle, decided to sell the bank to the Oak Park Trust and Savings bank, which had been founded a few/years previously, but some time subsequent to the founding of Oak Park’s original bank.: The Oak Park Trust is the oldest bank still extant in the village, but was not the first one here.A number of times there have been statements in Oak Leavestwhich were rather misleading, since evidently made in ignorance of the real facts of early banking conditions here, which I have no; asked you to correct. But since the Dunlop Brothers’ bank gave such valuable services in development not only of Oak Park but in that of neighboring communities as well, for some time before there were any other banking facilities, its history should not be confused with that of later establishments:ANNIE DUNLOP. • r-
