Large Contingent Left For Armv ExaminationwFifty-eight Linn County young men answered the call to service last night and left on two special buses for the reception center and examination depot at St. Louis.’ ^ ‘K‘ ■ 7 JV - IjT 'tV/' j * I V^.Y—\v Vl ^ r j'•• ^ :The group met at Luther’s Cafe where at 8 o’clock each man had reported and awaited the arrival of the busses. Some 300 friends and relatives gathered there to see The boys off. The entire group spent some three hours waiting before the busses arrivedA steady light rain was mixed with a heavy downpour just before the departure... ’It was a a solemn crowd that saw the boys off. Brookfield and Linn county citizens feel the nearness of the war as one by one friends and relatives leave for active service.• The men themselves apparently were answering the call in good spirits. A few of them ventured questions of W. E. Lines, secretary of the Linn County Board, as to any assignments. Apparently they were like a batter at a ball game awaiting the first pitch or a football player awaiting the kickdff--they were keyed up but unafraid. It is the average young man’s unfar.iiliarity with army life which makes him dread it to some extent.
