We challenge her to the test.While on this subject we may as well mention the fact that an additional charge of $40 has been demanded of our citizens by the Sacramentans for those caps they took the credit of sending. The cost of the caps in Sacramento was $20. The very moderate price of $80 was charged by the patriotic Sacramentans for getting the little budget here. The extra forty has been paid.We hope the Union will institute an inquiry if any more money is wanted in that city. If so, we can assure it the War Committee here have quite a smart sum left.—As certain people have gone down very deep in their pockets, the money may be wanted and is subject to their order.More About the Mn«**acre.We take the following from the Sacramento Bee:Virginia City, May 15th.About midnight last uight there was an alarm; the Indiana were reported within two miles of town. W omen and childred were gathered at Pat Reilley’s stone hotel, which was barricaded. Many cowards sneaked out of town with tneir blankets and rides during the night. A number went yesterday, and some of them will be in San Francisco soon. No Indians were seen or heard nor is it believed there are any except scouts within 50 miles. Our population has been much diminished within a few days. The absentees will all return after the arrival of troops and arms now on tho road. A war is anticipated, but the Indians wont come here to fight us.A proposition has been made, emanating from Genoa, to send delegates to Carson City at once to organize a temporary or Provisional Government. I am opposed to it. Wo have a Military Government now, and that is all which is necessary for the present. Iletter wait for Congress to organize the territory. Trask.Another Horrible Manta ere !—Seven Dead Bod-ict Found ! !Virginia City. May 15—10:20 p. v.M e have just received confirmation of another horrible massacre on the Trtiekee, which must have been perpetrated between the Sth and 11th instant.Mr. 0. C. Stone saw the bodies of seven men, who were murdered a f*»w milfs below the low *r crossing of tho river. They were seen also by another man, who came up with Capt. Curtis, of the commitary relief party. They arc supposed to have comprised a party which left this place en the 5th of May, for prospecting in the red bluffs of the Truckee. Their names are as follows: Spero Anderson. McAsevieh, JohnGibson, D. King, J. Greok, Caulfield, and Chas. Patnam.Indian Troubles.—Mr. W. R. Wadsworth who arrived by the Overland Mail, gives the Alta the following account of depredations committed by the Apache Indians on the Butterfield mail route:‘*On the 12th of April, eleven Camanches made a descent on the station known as Mountain Pass, near fort Belknap, in Texas and murdered the station keeper, William Lambsbead. about 23 or 24 years of age, who was herding the stock.* He left his pony and took refuge in a hollow tree, where he was found with nine bullet holes in his body, and a stranger who was staying with him. who came from Sherman. Texas, was scalped and had h's ears cut off; be walked into the station and lived some ten or twelve minutes.—A boy, Jas. Harvey about 15 or 16 years of age, was also murdered. A woman and colored man were not disturbed. The Camanches siole five mules.« O r •
