With the 189th Signal Repair Detachment of the Seventh Army in Germany—Cpl- Wylie A. Erwin, 23, of Globe, Ky., has been awardedthe Certificate of Merit for out-*standing performance and devotion to duty. The citation from Captain Frederick Lange his company commander, read in part:“The care and maintenance of his vehicle was always performed in a manner to reflect credit upon himself and upon this company.” Cpl. Erwin is serving as a driver for this signal detachment, which rehabilitates sueh signal equipment as telephones, switchboards, radios, mine detectors wire and power units used by combat forces in the final offensive to crush Nazism and end the war in Europe-Cpl. Erwin was recently promoted from his former rank of private first classHe is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Erwin of Globe, Ky. He entered the service on May 18, 1943 and has been overseas since December, 1943. Before his entry into the service he Vas employed as a truck driver by General Refractories ofOlive Hill.In addition to the Certificate of IMerit, Cpl. Erwin had been awarded the Good Conduct Medal and two Bronze Service Stars for participation in the northern France and Germany campaigns- 1 V-Cpl.
