Guerillas in West Virginia—'TlielrOperations a long the LUtleKuuawiia--Towns Burned.Kew Yokk, May 16-—The Herald's 'Washington correspondent says: Hon. Jacob B.Blair, of'Western Virgiuia, received this morning the following startling coraoiuoic.iuon from one of liis constituents in Virginia :“ We are all in a great state of excitement here. The town of Burning Springs, in Wirt counter (on the Little Kanawha River and about So miles southeast of Parkersburg), was burned yesterday afternoon by the Moccassin Rangers; also Palestine. Everything at the former place was destroyed This to*n (Parkersbuig) is full of iugitive3. It is not known who have been killed, though nnuy are missing. Charley Sliattuck was shot at twice across the river. The last seen of the Mocca?sins by fugitives here, they were taking the goods out of the boats in the river. It is not known what has become of the small military force in that region. The number of Moe-crssins is not known, though many fix it at six hundred. Where the devil did they come from? The town of Elizabeth (also in Wirt county and about ten miles west of Burning Spiings) is also deserted, and by this time probably burned. Some consider this place in imminent danger. They have but one company of soldiers here. The citizens would turn out to a considerable extent if they ou*y had arms.”
