George Washington Ling, 97-year-old Franklin Grove resident, served his country’s colors during the Civil War. He’d like to serve again in World War II, if infirmities of old age had not impaired both eyesight and hearing. Nevertheless, The Green Riverite photographer found the aged man one day recently, seated in his home, examining an application for employment at the Green River ordnance plant Mr. Ling—Lee county’s only uving Civil War vetefan—has two grandsons in uniform. They are Corp. Herbert Ling of Dixon, who is stationed at Nashville, Tenn.. and his brother. Fifth Grade Technician George Ling, also of Dixon, who is in training at Lubbock, Texas.isiI
