6B - THE STAR TIMES Wednesday, May 14,1997Swan Valley Air Cadet NewsFor the second year in a row, the Swan Valley Air Cadets have waited anxiously all winter to go on our spring break trip. This year, on April 1st we packed up our bags and headed for Regina. We stayed in the Travelodge Hotel where we enjoyed the pool and waterslide. The following day we went on a tour of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Training Academy. While there we saw police training, historical and monumental buildings as well as enjoying their museum and watching videos on such things as the musical ride. That evening we attended a concert of the Prairie Region Honour Band. This is a selected group of the best musicians amongst all cadets in the prairie region. Our last visit the next day was a spontaneous trip to the Regina Science Centre where we got to see boa constrictors, merge faces with our friends and many other very interesting displays. I can safely say we were all sad to leave. On April 11,12,13 we were very fortunate to have had Capt. Kim March come from Winnipeg to instruct 519 Sqn Cadets in First Aid. Our guest speaker was Major M. March who gave a very interesting and informative talk on some of Manitoba war heroes who had been awarded the Victoria Cross. Major March is presently employed at Air Command HQ in Winnipeg as Senior Staff Officer History. 519 SQN staff and cadets would like to thank all those responsible for ensuring the success of the mess dinner as well as all the valley residents who attended.Word has just been received that our annual sports Golden Falcon weekend scheduled for May 16,17,18,19 at Morden has been cancelled to support the flood relief program in that area.
