These letters will he handed to the men the instant he puts foot ashore.Send Photos and Newspapers.All mothers, sisters, wives and sweethearts who have soldiers returning home through Newport News, will be asked through their local newspapers to send their latest photographs to the States' building to be given to their boys as soon as they arrive from France. The States' officials at Newport News also request all the photographs that can be bad of the . folks and the scenes back home.The returning soldiers will be fullyinformed of *he States' WelcomeHome project before and after they debark. Pamphlets, exi^aintng fully the measures thrt the states throughout the union have effected for their benefit through war camp community service, will be placed on the transports when they sail from France. Men and women are there from your section of the country to give you any information you need. You’ll want to know something about that job. Theyll tell you. You'll want to get in touch with your home folks. They’ll help you.“The war camp community service men are on the job for you. They come irom your part of the country and represent each state. They are yonr own big brothers. They want you to feel that yonr own state is prond of you and stands ready instantly, to pay some of the debt it owes you.“Although landing in a strange port, perhaps 3,000 miles away from home, yon are not alone or neglected. Yonr own friends are waiting for you. the same kind of folks you left back home—the people you understand and who understands you.“Remember, your own home state takes you in its hospitable arms and wants you to know that you are home again. But best of all, what you want the most, there will be someone from your section of the country to chat with you, tell you the news from home, and let you hear how glad your people are that you have returned safely.”Housed In 9 Buildings.Nine buildings house the States’ Welcome project. These buildings were originally intended for hospitals in France. In fact, they were on board transports in New Orleans the day the armistice was signed. They are spacious and sanitary. Each building 100 feet in length and 20 in width is painted white with green trimmmgs, and surrounded by gardens and flower bed$. The States' Welcome Home occupies the central part of the Casino grounds, which is the most beautiful section of the quaint Virginia town.Ideally Located.Newport News is ideally located for a port of debarkation. The returning transports enter through the James river. The landing piers are at the edge of the Casino lawns. War camp community service has decorated all the avenues of march, which all the returning overseas men use to go to their camps just outside the town, from three to five miles distant. Numerous banners and state flags have been put up all along the way, with standards bearing the insignia of every overseas division. The returning men enter the town at the west end of the Casino' grounds through the victory arch erected by the residents of Newport News in their honor.The executive offices of the States’Welcome Home and the general information bureau is located in the administration building, at the west end of the Casino, facing West avenue and a block from the Warwick hotel. All returning men will be requested to leave their names, units to which they are attached and home addresses at the administration offices, so that a record can be kept.
