TT ' ' ‘ MPour Terre Hauteans are known m )ers of the 142nd Infantry, which mm seen two years' overseas duty. Phey*re listed among* the most battle-weathered troops in General Jacob L. Dever’s Sixth Army Group. Rugged f. ting in. Italy saw the 142pd among the first Americans to battle on European soil when they waded ashore at Salerno. They took the treacherous heights of Mount Maggiere and 3 ter, on Mount Castellone, beat off a force of 1,000 Germans with only 400 men. Tough? You betcha! They opened the gates to Rome and became the first unit to pass through tb it famed city. Then, from the beaches of southern France, they sped r rth and smashed back the remnants of the German 19th Army. Just ask Jbdl if you want to know how far back thev smashed ’em. They mopped up two German armies in the Saar basin and celebrated the divisions second anniversary overseas by boosting their total of German prisoners to 10,000.In the 142nd is Joe J. Radzun, son of Mrs. Lucille Radzun, 2009 North Twenty-third. Joe entered the Army almost three years ago, while em-- ployed a£ Wabash Fibre Box, and has better than 19 months overseas duty behind him. He recently sent home a bulletin covering his unit’s activities in 1944 and it gave his family conniptions just to read about ’em! It probably gave Joe many a bad moment to participate but he’s still not talking—at least not in his letters. Also in the 142nd are Staff Sgt. Russell E. Pierce, route 5; Pfc. Fred-: J— .....■■■ ■Col. Robert Lee Scott Jr., (Denn Japanese Zeros in the above sci which starts Saturday, Maydie A. Goetz, 2119 South First, and Pfc. Burns .D. Fuller, 2707 Dillman. We haven’t been able to check back on Russ and Freddie but we do know that Burns and Joe received their Combat Infantry Radges at about the same time. That probably means that they hit combat about the same time—in Italy. One of Joe’s most faithful correspondents is his sister, Mrs. Stella
