Carter is the grandson of the late Mr£. Eldora Carter, one of Fairbury’s Gold Star mothers, and the son of Floyd Carter of Sterling, 111., formerly of this city.* 1st Lt. Claude E, Raney arrived Saturday from the Pacific theater of war for a 21-day leave in Fairbury with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Raney, his wife, Mrs. Mary I. Raney, and their daughter, Claudia. He has completed numerous missions as a B-24pilot with the 13 th AAF'sBomber Barons against targets ranging from Palau to the Philippines, and the long-range strike against refineries at Balikpapan in southeast Bor-neo. ..
