Award Good Conduct Medal Corsicana ManThe award of the Good Conduct Medal to Sergeant Billy D. Murphree, of Corsicana, has disclosed w ^that this Corsicana man is with e a Ninth Air Force fighter group commanded by the veteran pilot Lieutenant Colonel Lance Call of Houston, Texas, which distinguished itself in its first mission by shooting down six and probably two others of 14 Focke-Wulf 190b which attacked Flying Fortress Formation over Northern France.Sgt. Murphree, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Zelma Murphree, 1921 South Eighteenth street, was graduated from Corsicana High School In 1941 and was employed by the Brown and Boot Construction Co., of Tyler, at the time of his entering the service In November, 1942. He attended Army Air Forces radio schools at Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Tomah, Wise., and left for overseas duty late last year. He is now Inthe fighter group’s communications department. A brother, Donald Murphree, is a corporal In the Army Medical Corps.
