Yorker Promoted To MajorCaptain Richard S. Spangler, of the United States Coast Guard stationed in Hawaii, was advanced to the rank of major on April 28 ac-1 cording to a clippergram, received j yesterday by his parents. Mr and Mrs F. M Spangler. Wayneavenue. Major Spangler has been stationed in Hawaii the past two years. He graduated from the West Point Military academy in 1931. For a period of four years he taught mathematics at West Point. He saw .service in the Philippine islands before being transferred to Hawaii.
