CHIPPERFIELD WITHDRAWSMajor B. M. Chipperfield; judge advocate of the Illinois national guard, has announced his withdrawal as a candidate for the United States senate at the coming September primary* Major Chipperfield will soon accompany Illinois troops to France and remain there during the period of the war.It is because he feels he can best serve his country at the post he is now occupying that he puts aside his ambition to become a member of the United States senate. He is influenced, too, by a desire to see unity in the Republican party and the concentration of its loyal vote in favor of one candidate. The conviction that Major Chipper-is worthy of the honor he sought to represent Illinois in the senate has been strengthened by his withdrawal from the present campaign and his continuation in the army service. He has been one of the strong men in the public life of Illinois for a number of years and his recent action gives added evidence for his patriotism and his ‘Supporters have been largely increased by the tQne of the manly letter he indicted in his withdrawal from the senatorial race.
