and r.ftlt;r protracted litigation obtained Judgment for its amount which was nearly $3,000.The failure of the Creelmans coupled with the obligation imposed up on the local institution of paying these certificates of deposit and the check mentioned, all of which was without any consideration to the Defiance Bank, still added more to its embarrassment. Notwithstanding all these embarrassments the local institution has made a heroic fight not only to maintain its institution but to place itself upon a sound footing. The Bank had been designated as City Depositary and as Depository of several outside townships. The U. S. Fidelity and Guaranty company readily became surety on the bond of the Bank as such depository, hut after these judgments were rendered against it. hesitated about renewing the bond unless indemnified. For several days an agent of the Indemnity Company has been at Defiance looking after the affairs of the bank and attempting to arrange with the Bank for acceptable indemnity before renewing its bonds of the Bank as depository for the City and the several townships re ferred to. In the mean time the officials of the Bank were negotiating wltti some Chicago parties for funds sufficient in amount to tide the bank St. L... over all difficulties. However, before these matters were adjusted, a Deputy U. S. Marshal visited Defiance armed with an execution on the I judgment rendered in favor of the , Tennessee bank.
