M. A. fi’iends. He will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Alma Stack Persing, who has won an eminent position in her own right in educational circles. She is expected to take a prominent part in Western life and to exert a wholesome ' influence. For the past ten years, Mrs. Persing has been counselor of women at Northwestei'n University. She is a graduate of Baylor University in Texas and spent four years traveling as a student secretary in that state. She then served as director of social activities at North Texas State Teachers’ College.Regret Her Departure A recent edition of the “Daily Northwestern” paid a great tribute to Mrs. Persing’s work at that university. The paper notes her sympathetic, friendly service to the girls and her inspirational guidance.President Scott of Northwestern, commenting upon Mrs. Persing’s resignation, said:“The university is very sorry to lose Mrs. Persing. She has been very close to the students in one capacity or another during the past few years and has been most helpful. Her many friends will wish her success.”A Student Tribute One of the women students, writing in the student paper, stated:“It is with deep personal regret that we learn of Mrs. Persing’s resignation from the university. We can remember- vividly our own freshman week at the university three years ago, and our first glimpse of Mrs. Persing, smiling, hospitable, greeting an endless line of awkward freshmen women crowding the reception room at the Georgian. Instinctively, we recognized a sympathetic personality, combined with an intelligent understanding of student problems. The first memory of her is common to many other Northwestern women.“She has helped many women to settle problems concerning roommates, sororities, financial troubles, social adjustment, and so forth. She has always been there with an open ear for listening to difficulties, and to all new students she has emphasized the fact that they could come to her at any time. Mrs. Persing has constantly taught the importance ol self-government as the purpose of education. The strengthening of individual character, the integration of personality to face life she considers one of the functions of a university.” Cadets feel sure that Mrs. Persing will also win a warm place in the hearts of those who live on the West-
